The Dutchy Project was founded by six like minded people who have all lost people close to them due to Suicide, one being a mutual friend we lost 22 years ago called Mark Holland whom we have named The Dutchy Project after. That week there were 7 suicides in the local area, unfortunately more mutual friends, so we decided to get together to see what we can do to try help in what ever we could. We want to build a community of like-minded people to help and support each other and get fitter and healthier along the way, we understand sometimes people have issues that are much deeper than meeting for a brew and a chat or helped with a walk or run so we have teamed up with local counsellors to assist where more support is needed. This is a great outlet for us to be able to refer people who require professional assistance, but in these instances, we see ourselves as the first step that some people wouldn’t have taken.
We currently run 5 different activities throughout the week:
- Monday- Men’s Football 8-9pm (outdoor train and talk)
- Wednesday- Outdoor running club 7-8pm (all levels of fitness welcome)
- Thursday- Indoor Open forum 6.30pm-8pm (share any issues or struggles you may be facing)
- Friday- Circuit sessions with a qualified PT 7-8pm & 8-9pm (indoor)
- Sunday- outdoor hikes- (walk, get some fresh air, get stuff off your chest or to just keep active)
As we continue to grow each week and become more successful. We need all the support we can get to help us to continue to grow with the activities we already provide. We need support with football kits, football sport equipment, pitch costs, gym costs, gym equipment , running kits, counselling referrals and potential merchandise to generate more funds to our project.
However the ultimate goal what we want to achieve with the money raised is to have our own premises with a gym/community/ wellness centre open 7 days a week.
