THE DAUGHTERS OF DIVINE LOVE

RCN 1005536, London

Our project is addressing the stress of food poverty and the inability to have a decent meal at least once a week among homeless people and the vulnerable in the community. We provide 3 course meal for the homeless and any who wants a hot meal in the community . We also drop off food at hostel for vulnerable women. We have started dropping off food for house bounds there-by relieving them of the stress of thinking about regular meals which indirectly help with mental health and well-being.

THE DAUGHTERS OF DIVINE LOVE

The difficult situation of things now  has in many ways affected many people. Worse mental health is linked with poorer social and economic circumstances. This includes living in poverty, lack of proper meals, having low-quality or low paid work, unemployment and poor housing. The present hardship/high cost of living is   likely to intensify existing stressors, sometimes deepening existing inequalities, and it will also present new stressors for different groups of people.

We are one of the charities who believe that everyone should have enough food to eat and that homeless people should not starve although homeless.

Who we are and what we do:

We are the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love an international order of religious women with papal status founded in 1969. We are a registered charity in the uk.

Our vision is for a community where no one is left without the three basic needs of life: food, water, and shelter. We have been helping the poor since we were founded on 1969, so we have track history of providing services to the poor. We can be found in different parts of the world including UK, USA and Germany, Italy Africa.

We are on a mission to support the homeless and the community around South west London as part of the many charitable works we do by offering 3 course hot meals, hot drinks, Hygiene products  and be available for advice and support on a weekend.

The Soup Kitchen and community project aims to help many homeless and needy people around Streatham London to deal with the difficulties of this present time. Our project is helping our community to cope with the impact of food poverty. We provide hot meals, hygiene products, blankets, clothes, to the homeless and any one who needs one  every fortnight. We also provide advise about services around the area to support their needs.

We are based in London and works in an area of high deprivation where there are many homeless people.  Our new initiative of feeding the homeless and any  not only provides them with hot meals and hot drinks but will be available for advice and support on a weekend. We are also extending our services to people who are house bound, who are unable to get to the centre to provide them with food items.

Our soup kitchen is unique and it’s a direct way of reaching out to the homeless and the community during the weekend and make them feel accepted in the society by providing them hot meals and make them feel good on a weekend. We are here to help some of South London’s most vulnerable people.

We believe our program is a practical way of making a positive difference ON one of the 21st century's biggest issues of eradicating homelessness and food poverty.

It complements local services and provides hot meal and other care to homeless people on a weekend around Streatham South west London and offer continued sustenance to vulnerable people.

We offer advice, information, and guidance of what is available locally for people to be able to move on from their homelessness or vulnerabilities. We flag up alerts of people living with or fleeing from domestic violence.  We also get information on why people are homeless and direct them to right services.

We have a track history of working with the vulnerable and marginalised and in keeping with our founders vision the diverse work we provide services in every walk of live where the manifestation of God’s love is needed. Our aim is always to serve the poorest and most marginalised in our world, those at the fringe of society, to feed the hungry, to make education for all a reality, to give water to the thirsty, to provide shelter for the homeless to provide health care support to the sick,  To give the gift of light to the poor.

We do these through our programs of : Feeding /care program for the homeless,   Empowerment program for the disabled, Providing free medical care for the less privileged, Construction of homes for the homeless, Construction of specialist school for children with disability. All Sisters are trained to provide quality services and care to marginalised groups and individuals.

Our soup kitchen project is one of the direct ways we are reaching out to homeless and make them feel accepted in the society.

Help us end the virus of hunger and care for homeless people during this difficult time and extend our services to the housebound by delivering food to them. We are here to make sure they get hot meal during the weekend. We are working hard to make sure that homelessness must not turn to starvation and hunger. That  homeless people feel accepted and increase the number of people that leaves our street for a better accommodation and integrate in the society?

We hope to feed 30 to 40 homeless people each time.

Your donation will help homeless people to feed and not left out. It will help to reintegrate them back to the society when directed to where to get such help. People are less likely to stay in the cold.

How will we use the money raised?

We are raising money to keep our Divine Love soup Kitchen running in order to provide hot meals and other hygiene products  for homeless people and any around Streatham London during this difficult time. To make sure homelessness does not turn to starvation.

We have continuously served meals at weekend since 2020, now this is done twice in the month which is the second and the fourth Saturday of each month but weekly is the best, if we had the funds. We have served over 500 plates of food since we started and some feedback received are "thank you for  giving me hot meal and for making my weekend great"

We would need support to continue the good work we are doing  for the community. Currently we are using the Church hall at English Martyrs Catholic Church ,2. Mitcham Lane SW16 2EE ( known in the  community as the soup kitchen) but we need a permanent place and cooking storage facilities to enable us maximise some food donations we receive from supermarket .This enables us to maximize plan and provide our services weekly as against the biweekly cooking which we currently engage in.

Donate to help us  provide services for homeless people especially during this difficult time.

How you can help

There are two way you can help.

1. Make a donation:

As little as £10 could make a difference in helping us feed someone/homeless this difficult time. It will help narrow the number of homeless people out on the street who will get hot meals and be directed to where to get help.

2. Share our story:

Crowdfunding succeeds because people spread the word, so please use the social media links to help us reach even more people.

Thank you for helping us help those who need help most.
