The Costume Donation is UK based non-profit organisation that takes excess, unwanted or unused clothing from costume departments in the film and tv industry and directly gives it to people who want and need it instead of it being potentially wasted or thrown away.
The Costume Donation concept was born out of the want to directly donate clothing to people who will benefit from the clothing immediately. So much clothing from film & tv productions goes in the bin or is being dropped off to charity shops. But according to the EPA, a whopping 84 percent of our donated charity shop clothing ends up in landfills and incinerators, so we want to make sure that any costume clothing destined for charity shops is distributed and allocated directly to organisations that will reach people that give it a loving new home.
Everyone at The Costume Donation is volunteering their time for free, however there are costs that still need to be covered, such as transport for pick ups and drop offs, laundering costs to make sure everything we're donating is clean, a hired space to organise the clothes in, costs of bags, labels and general stationary.
