Cornwall Heritage Trust

Cornwall Heritage Trust is an independent charity which aims to preserve and strengthen (“gwytha ha crefhe”) Cornwall’s unique and distinct heritage for one and all (“onan hag oll”).

All over Cornwall, there are heritage sites that are uncared for and at risk – some that are even lost forever. There are Cornish traditions, ranging from gig building and wrestling to shanty singing and dancing, which need our support to flourish. Cornwall is incredibly special and we need to connect people with its landscape, traditions and communities to keep its story alive. That’s where Cornwall Heritage Trust comes in.

We protect 14 of Cornwall’s most iconic and important historic sites from Caer Bran in the far west, to Dupath Well in the east. The places we care for cover a broad spectrum of history; from Neolithic remains such as Tregiffian Burial Chamber near Penzance, to Treffry Viaduct, a 19th-century architectural wonder hidden in the Luxulyan Valley near St Austell.

We believe that Cornwall’s heritage is for one and all, and the 100 acres of historic landscapes we care for are all open to the public and free to enter.

We also run a highly successful history education programme, host community events, offer support to other heritage organisations, and provide school transport grants, which have enabled nearly 22,500 primary school children to visit ancient sites, museums and historic properties across Cornwall since its launch in 2014. We want Cornwall’s communities to take ownership and pride in their heritage and landscape and our support helps tens of thousands of Cornish people to connect with their roots every year.
