Aim: Raise additional funds for a show (contemporary ensemble piece) on the pressures, expectations, and stereotypes that shape women’s lives.
'The Constant Storm' is a contemporary ensemble performance blending aspects of clowning, physical theatre, and collaborative storytelling. The piece doesn’t offer clear answers but invites audiences to sit in the discomfort of these demands—and the storm they stir up
What should a woman be? What should a woman do? How should a woman behave?
These weighted questions are at the heart of why we are making a performance piece to explore the pressures, expectations, and stereotypes still shaping women’s lives today. Especially with the recent UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of 'woman' and the rise back to power of political figures that hinder equality as a human right, our performance feels especially poignant and important because of the conversations it sparks and the shared experiences it makes space for.
Our amazing Creative Team's emerging artists have been working very hard over the last few years and have finally been awarded funding from Creative Scotland for the show. Although it is absolutely amazing and we are so grateful for this, we still need some support to make it happen at its best.
- As an artist I am aiming to create a high-quality piece of theatre also because of the conversations it sparks and the shared experiences it makes space for. The working processes with the creative team—and what it ignites in audiences—is just as vital as the final product.
- Jen Kelly, The Lead Artist
The Performance premieres on 12th of July at Beacon Arts Centre, in Greenock, Scotland. As emerging artists we are raising further funding to make sure the project is delivered as well as possible, with the wellbeing of our team in mind.
We have a new team, and want everyone to feel comfortable coming to the rehearsal room to devise together. To ensure this, we want to have an extra paid day of rehearsals.
We work with very delicate and intimate topics, which could put performers under strain. We want to make sure that we have the right tools and time to keep everyone safe and supported during and after the project.
As emerging artists, we recognise the importance of creating a portfolio of work that we can pitch to venues and producers. High-quality video recording and photography are key elements to showcase our work.
Alongside our work on the performance, we have been running workshops to support women in the West Central Belt of Scotland. We have been collecting incredible feedback and we want to continue this work. By enabling our performative work, you will also support women in your community. And as a perk you can even get a workshop for your team/company!
Your support means a lot to this multidisciplinary team of artists who use performance as a tool to start conversation on socially relevant topics.
