The Cluntergate Centre

WHO ARE WE?

The Cluntergate Centre is managed by a registered charity (Horbury Community Centre Trust) that was set up by a group of local residents in response to the Council's intention to close the community centre. The Trust leases the building from the Council and is solely responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Centre. The Trust employs just 2 part time staff; the rest is done by volunteers who give up their own time and skills to ensure the community has this vital and valuable centre.

We host over 40 groups and classes a week, as well as providing valuable space for local residents to hold family celebrations. We welcome everyone and everybody.

WHAT'S HAPPENED?

At Christmas time, we discovered an area of the wooden floor in the Hall was rotten. Further investigations revealed significant wet rot and woodworm infestation.

This has now been repaired thanks to the expertise of Peter Cox and also a very generous grant from the Horbury Common Lands Trust. We've also had our fabulous dance floor resanded and finished.

But, there is still a lot to do.

WHAT DO WE NEED?

We need to have the rest of the floor boarded, levelled and carpeted. In a hall the size of ours, that's not a small job. And then there's a huge clean up operation to make sure it's sparkly clean and shiny for all our groups and classes to come back to and for all the birthday parties we'll be hosting.

The money raised through this campaign will pay for the carpet tiles. If we reach that initial target, we'd like to push on to raise the rest of the money we need to cover the full cost of the works and the clean up.
