Aim: Help these queer, feminist theatre artists get to Edinburgh!
Two muses. One 15th Century French widow. Absolutely loads of women. After launching at Camden People's Theatre in March and whizzing down to Brighton Fringe in May, this offbeat comedy will once more be exploring the radical ladies of the past through puppetry, sketch, and special hats - this time at Edinburgh Fringe in August!
The thing is, we need your help. Fringe theatre is a wildly expensive business, and after funding the project out of our own pockets so far we've decided to turn to the kindness of strangers (and indeed friends) to help us out.
Donations here will help cover our travel, rent, and living expenses, contribute toward technical costs and go towards our small marketing budget to make sure as many people as possible hear about our show while we're up there!
About the Show
Christine de Pizan is having a rubbish day. Stuck in the court of king Charles VI, she’s getting frankly despondent at the material realities of being a woman in the middle ages. But not to worry! Ladies Rectitude and Reason, two of the three muses (Justice is on a wicked comedown) have been sent from on high to help her build a city constructed and populated exclusively by women.
This is NOT a flip project for the patch of land out back, but a necessary act of social justice and restoration for the sanctity and peace of women everywhere. But what does it actually mean to be a lady? Who gets to decide? And will there be profitable Airbnbs? Answers to some (but definitely not all) of these questions at The City of Ladies.
“Perfect comedic timing… an absolute joy to watch” ★★★★ (WestEndBestFriend).
“A genre-defying hour of informed silliness” ★★★★ (ToDoList London).
The City of Ladies runs from 30th July - 10th August 2025 at the Gilded Balloon Appleton Tower: Eve at 19:40
