The Borth Community Bus Shelter Project!
We did it
On 16th October 2024 we successfully raised £285 with 11 supporters in 83 days

I want to raise £6,500 to cover the cost of buying and installing a new bus shelter at the southern end of Borth High Street.

Until recently, there was a roadside shelter at the bus stop just before the Nisa roundabout - as you can see from the Google Maps image shown above. This shelter has now been removed.  It wasn't a fancy shelter, but a lot of people relied on it to protect them from Borth's notoriously wet and windy weather.  A lot of people regularly catch the 502 service in Aberystwyth from this stop, including elderly residents, families with young children and holiday-makers. It is also one of the pick up points for daily school bus services during term time.  Now that the shelter is no more, everyone just gets wet when it rains! For our more elderly or infirm residents and visitors, standing around in the rain and then spending two hours in town in damp clothes can present a very real health risk.  For our children, the loss of the shelter can lead to an uncomfortable morning at school, as wet uniform slowly steams dry in class.

We need a new shelter at the Sands bus stop as soon as possible, and definitely before next winter. Unfortunately, financial constraints mean that neither the County Council nor Borth Community Council can fund this project at present. Rest assured that the Community Council has explored all possible options! As things stand, a community fundraiser seems like the best way forward - and so here we are!

If the community can raise enough cash to replace this bus shelter, then perhaps we can look at a second project to raise funds for much-needed bus shelters at other stops along the 502 route through Borth - for example, near the YHA or the entrance to Cae-Gwylan.

Please donate whatever you are able to - every £1 will help! Also, please share this page across your social media networks. It would be brilliant to get the first new / replacement shelter funded and installed before the winter.

Thank you!
