My name is Marty Ruta and I'm researching, growing, collecting, selling and cultivating Moss since 2020. I was a part time Biology student, now I swapped for Physics. On Friday 08.11.2024 on BBC2 there will be an episode on BBC Gardeners World, episode nr 32, where we will be featured talking about Moss and showcasing a garden I've prepared for the show. This episode will be available on BBC iPlayer, and it was recorded at the beginning of May. There are also articles about shop I co-founded, Moss Clerks ( our website ) in the times about our participation in RHS URBAN Show in Manchester 24', and from the telegraph. I started writing a book this year and finished it this week.
IN THIS BOOK YOU CAN READ ABOUT BASIC MOSS INFORMATION, HISTORY, GET TO KNOW THE COMMON MOSS IN OUR WOODLANDS, MOSS FOR GARDEN PROJECTS, FOR USE IN TERRARIUMS, MOSSARIUMS, BOWLS, BONSAI, OTHER DIY PROJECTS, AS WELL AS READ A RESEARCH PAPER, CHECK IF THE MOSS CAN HELP US OUT WITH THE CLIMATE CHANGE,LEARN HOW YOU CAN CONDUCT YOUR OWN EXPERIMENTS, SEE ONE OF THE LARGEST SPECIES OF MOSS, LEARN HOW TO START YOUR OWN MOSS BUSINESS, THE DANGERS OF WORKING WITH MOSS AND MANY BENEFITS OF IT, PLUS HUNDREDS OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF MOSS.
I'm hoping to popularize Moss, and encourage people of all age to learn a bit more about this ancient plant. It can by a way for some people to start their own business, or pick up a research idea, or test the research paper I placed inside my book, there are ideas for garden designers, landscapers and students, gardeners.
We are certified by the Agricultural and Science Agency to make our own Plant Passports.
This fundraiser will have something special, a Hardcover version of the book, which will be a limited edition with a signature and a private lesson about Moss via video chat.
Another reason for this fundraiser is described in the last chapter of the book; my mum's health hasn't been very well recently, end of last year and at the beginning of this one she had cancer tests, and now her knees are breaking down, she needs to get them both done via surgery in the next year, otherwise she might end up on a wheelchair, chances of that will be rising will passing time and her still working part time on retirement. She worked all her life, and I would like to fund her surgeries, one knee would cost approximately £1550, £3100 for both plus after care.
I'm hoping to raise £5569 in order to be able to print at least a 1000 copies of the book.
There will be a separate PDF file, Paperback version and Hardback version (only on Go Fund Me). If you are in the UK, there will be a special gift option with a love heart mossarium and purple/red/pink Sphganum moss inside it. The PDF file is added automatically to the printed versions of the book.
I will also add an option to donate to my research about moss usage in tackling the climate change, more about it in the book, I explained the experiments, the question we are looking at is, not whether it will work, only how well it will work. My research is based on a research made in 1984, my own observations described in the paper, weighing the mosses and calculating the maximum potential of moss. As I mention in the book ( spoiler alert ), I do not care really about the patent rights, I did not come up the idea, then hypothesis and thesis to hoard it to myself. It's something I'd like anybody to check where ever they are in the world.
