We're still collecting donations

On the 26th April 2024 we'd raised £20 with 1 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

I am David Alan Brookes, originally from Coventry in the West Midlands. I moved to Birmingham in 1994 after my father changed job roles, and I studied Dentistry at the University of Birmingham, passing in 2006. I have however always had a side project that started its life as a single book which was a complete flop. Through the passage of time my original idea of the Kain Tempra evolved in my mind until in 2008 I decided it was too much to bear not to write it down. And so, with no experience of screen writing I self-taught myself a skill, which is now being converted in to final draft. The idea itself was far too mad to pursue in 2008 as the rest of the world did not talk about moon bases or asteroid mining, and interstellar travel was regarded as a myth. I commissioned a local but well-known artist, Peter Pracownik to start outlining some of the visuals to what was now the Bassen project, with five films that were by 2009 fully written. There was a new concept incorporated of parallax boards which were essentially the same time line but viewed from different perspectives to see what changed.

I practiced happily as a dentist for sixteen years until in 2021 I briefly passed away from a 9.7 intraparenchymal haemorrhage (haemorrhagic stroke), which, as there was intraventricular extension carried an 80% mortality rate on the night. I was determined to see my daughter again and on the night of admission on 09/02/21 I told them I would walk out in less than a month. After a few nights in Derriford hospital I was sent to Royal Cornwall Hospitals as my risk level had dropped, on 15/02/2021 I took to my feet again and took my first steps. I was advised to retire from Dentistry immediately due to the stress levels, to which my immediate question to my wife was “what's the next big project?”. On 02/03/21 I was discharged from hospital and I walked to the car, later that day my wife drove me to my daughters nursery and picked her up as promised. Various visions had come to me over the years over when Bassen project could be running. One of the visions was in the event of a serious car crash claiming my life – I now see where that crash should have been and luckily I avoided it even though I was having a stroke behind the wheel. Another condition was that a piece of music I knew would accompany the text of one of my most powerful speeches hadn’t been completed. It was in 2015 that Ferdk released his version of Cid’s theme which is the backing track I had waited long for but I did not find this until 2021 on holiday in Tenerife.

The Project has been a big part of my life and I would sincerely love for it to make it all the ways to the big screen. Also, slightly more selfishly I need a new way to go in life as the road I had created is now blocked, and would dearly love to be able to give my daughter the good life we used to enjoy prior to my stroke. Anyone who assists me in funding this project will be given credit to it if it makes it all the way
