The garden will be used as a community project enabling people to socialise and build friendships while working together to develop the site and produce fresh vegetables for those in need in our city.
A plot of land was obtained for use as a community garden. As it had become overgrown with weeds and debris a group of volunteers came together to help clear the site.
During the year vegetables will be grown and harvested and donated to the Ark Community Hub Foodbank which operates in the centre of Nottingham. The project envisages creating a garden where people can use their talents, learn how to grow a variety of vegetables and find satisfaction in supporting people in need. Tending a garden, working outdoors and seeing plants grow provides a therapeutic experience while connecting with nature and with each other.
In order for the plot to function effectively certain facilities will be needed and the money you donate will be used to develop the garden. This will consist of purchasing and installing a storage shed, a shelter with seating, a toilet facility, a new entrance gate and a polytunnel (greenhouse) to produce seedlings and young plants before planting out in the growing beds. General garden tools, compost, pots and and seeds will also be purchased. Over time pathways and raised beds will be developed as needed
Work began towards the end of 2023 to clear the site ready for development. The aim is to commence growing vegetables from Spring 2024.
