Our aim is to raise vital funds for Better Way Recovery and to highlight the current lack of local support in the Lichfield District.
by Better Way Recovery 24Hour Sleepout in Lichfield, England, United Kingdom
The 24 hour sleep out has been organised by one of the trustee board Danielle Byatt & co founder Peter Griffith.
The aim of the sleep out is not only to raise funds, but also to raise awareness of the lack of services for people with a drug and alcohol problem in the District of Lichfield, and also to reduce the stigma that comes with addiction.
Many people only realise that Lichfield does not have any services or support available when they seek help. The current situation is that anyone within the Lichfield District who is seeking support for a substance misuse problem has to travel to either Tamworth or Burton to access any kind of professional support.
Danielle has had her own journey with addiction she has been free from substances for almost ten years, and knows first hand how vital local support is.
“Many people with issues with either alcohol or drugs are too scared to ask for help and don’t know where to turn. As a trustee of Better Way my aim is to change that!
We want to let people in the Lichfield district know that we are there to offer support not only to the addict or alcoholic, but to the family too! My family suffered for years, without knowing where to turn, and I don’t want it to be like that for others!
Our aim is to make recovery visible in the Lichfield district, to let people know we here, and we want to help! All the people who are taking part in the sleep out have been impacted by addiction, either themselves or their families. We want to prove that recovery is possible!
We have secured a building and we are now in the process of raising 15k so we can move in as soon as possible. Better Way will be open 6 days a week. We are hoping to make our centre a Recovery Hub. We want to support individuals to see there is a way out!
