Synopsis:
It’s 45 minutes to midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and Megan is throwing a New Years Eve party, which is crashed by her old friend Ashley. But they haven’t spoken in years, and Megan gets drunker in her attempt to avoid her.
As they navigate this awkward reunion, we see the last day they spent together back in the early 90s. On that day, a younger Ash is going through a pregnancy scare, and a younger Meg is helping her through it, as best friends do. The pregnancy test, support, and an understanding that Ash’s boyfriend is a dick, all lead to a revelation of feelings between the girls, with Meg declaring her love for Ash, right as the timer for the test goes off.
On New Years Eve, they end up on the floor of the bathroom, but how will they feel about each other as they enter this new century…?
Directors Statement:
My friendships are the most important thing in the world to me, and in mine and my friend’s experience, being a 20-year-old girl means dealing with a friend’s bad boyfriend, someone’s pregnancy scare, struggles of sexuality and an overlap of platonic and romantic love.
Test confronts those feelings, and I am so lucky to be able to make this film with my two best friends showcasing their amazing talent in a film we are all so passionate about.
Ultimately, this story celebrates queer love and female friendship, and some of the messiness that comes along with it. There is no other film that tells a story of lesbians at the countdown to the millennium, but there should be.
Where is your money going?
The most exciting part of this film, and the biggest challenge, is that we are going back in time! Test is set over an iconic visual and aesthetic time period, and it is key that these scenes are clearly separate and of their era. Your money will go towards our costume, make-up and set design so we can make this as realistic as possible and do the 90s justice! Any donation, no matter how small, will be really appreciated.
