Teddy Teeth follows the story of Sadie, a shy young girl grappling with the pressure to leave her childhood behind as she starts senior school, with her only true friend being her loyal and ragged teddy bear, Toast. As time carries on and puberty moves closer, after a particularly tough day at school Sadie loses a tooth which she uses to wish to be as strong has her teddy best friend. Little does she know that this moment would kickstart a series of events that would eventually lead to Sadie coming face to face with a new version of herself, after undergoing a terrifying transformation.
Teddy Teeth as a whole is about change, and that with the right reassurance and support, change is to be embraced in stride and with confidence. Blending themes of growing up and starting something new with bright, vibrant, nostalgia ridden visuals, to twinge the part of the brain that holds the memories of what it was like to be young.
Production design and costume elements serve to create environments that look like you’ve stepped back into a memory, drawing on that feeling of childhood innocence helped along by a soundscape and editing style to force you to look through Sadie’s eyes, to see what she sees and feel what she feels. Our crew are dedicated to refining every single detail of their work and creating a world that feels relatable and personal, a direct love letter to the younger versions of ourselves that we carry with us every day.
Teddy Teeth is about growing up, transformation, individuality and more. Sadie, like all of us at one point in our lives, is afraid. She’s afraid to reach the next step of life, feeling terrified she has to abandon the person she is now. The transformation into wilderness teaches her the importance of being strong, standing up for herself but also maintaining her individuality.
The crew of ‘Teddy Teeth’ is primarily made up of Third Year Film Production BA (Hons) students at Arts University Bournemouth. ‘Teddy Teeth’ is one of three debut films for a new independent production company being created by Paula Szczyrba (Writer/Director), George Clarke (Producer) and Dylan Clarke (Producer). The production company aims to give a creative outlet to outcasts, celebrating unique, offbeat stories and welcoming all possibilities.
The project is completely independent of the university, except the potential loaning of equipment. ‘Teddy Teeth’ is a personal project of the crew, created for personal development, motivations for wanting to share the story/themes and expansion of personal skills/portfolios. Teddy Teeth specifically will be the final film that the crew will be working on before they move away from their university town, treating it as a goodbye to their younger selves, and the jumping off point for their progression into the ever expanding wider world of creative arts.
Overall, there is something in ‘Teddy Teeth’ for everyone - the project represents childhood in a romantic, dreamlike manner to encourage positive reflections and emotional experiences, playing the story almost like a memory
