We're still collecting donations

On the 23rd December 2023 we'd raised £215 with 15 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

We're going national!

We currently operate mental health supporting football events (kickabouts) every week across Lancashire. It's helped hundreds of people with their mental health and now we are ready to take it across the UK.

Who are we?

TeamKickabout is a not-for-profit organisation which began as a simple idea in 2018 but has since grown into a remarkable initiative dedicated to improving mental health and building communities through the love of football. The story of TK is a testament to the power of a single idea, dedication, and the positive impact it can have on people's lives.

In 2018, Graham Sims, a dad who was struggling with being overweight and feeling isolated, had an idea. He wanted to bring together a few like-minded individuals to play football. Recognizing that many dads faced similar challenges in terms of maintaining social connections and physical activity as they juggled responsibilities, Graham saw the potential of using football as a solution.

The initiative was informal, with just four lads, a park, and a football. What started as a small gathering soon gained momentum, as more dads joined in each week.

Recognizing the potential of this initiative to make a more significant impact, Peter Brooks, a local businessman, dad, and football enthusiast, approached Graham. The idea proved to be a resounding success, highlighting a genuine need for such social and physical activities among dads. Together, they envisioned a grander plan for what TK could become.

In October 2020 that vision became a reality, TeamKickabout Community Interest Company (CIC) was officially founded, with Peter and Graham leading the way, later being Joint by Aaron Bedford as the third director. Their shared goal was clear: to create a structured and supportive platform for dads and individuals of all backgrounds who shared a passion for football, social connection, and improved mental health.

TK's growth didn't stop there. The organization expanded its activities, offering multiple kickabouts at various locations throughout Lancashire, UK. These kickabouts, designed to be inclusive, non-judgmental, and stress-free, started drawing people from all walks of life, regardless of age, weight, or football skill.

TK's impact on mental health and community well-being became increasingly evident. The organisation was recognised through various awards and accolades, including the 2022 FA Lancashire Project of the Year at the Red Rose Awards and the 2023 FA Lancashire Positive Football Environment Awards.

While TK's achievements are impressive, what truly sets this initiative apart is that it's entirely volunteer-driven. The hard work and dedication of not only Peter, Graham and Aaron but also the captains who lead each session have contributed to TK's success.

The story of TeamKickabout exemplifies how a simple idea, born out of a personal need, can evolve into a transformative force for good. It serves as an inspiration for others to address mental health challenges, promote community building, and make a meaningful difference in people's lives. With a commitment to expansion and a focus on improving mental health and combating issues such as depression, anxiety, and suicide, TeamKickabout continues to write its story of positive impact one kickabout at a time.

Why are we crowdfunding?

TeamKickabout is more than a football initiative; it's a lifeline that has proven to save lives and revolutionize mental health support. Now, as we seek the support of crowdfunding, we aim to not only expand our reach but to magnify the positive impact on lives and reduce the strain on healthcare resources across the UK.

Our Life-Saving Impact:

TeamKickabout's journey from a local kickabout to a vital mental health resource is a testament to its life-saving impact. Many participants have shared personal stories of how TeamKickabout became their refuge, providing solace, camaraderie, and a sense of purpose. Our commitment to mental health goes beyond the football pitch, with countless testimonials affirming that TeamKickabout has been a beacon of hope in challenging times.

Cost-Effective Mental Health Support:

One of the unique aspects of TeamKickabout is its cost-effectiveness in providing mental health support. By leveraging the power of community, physical activity, and shared experiences, TeamKickabout serves as a practical and efficient alternative to traditional mental health interventions. The strain on NHS resources is alleviated as TeamKickabout offers a solution that is not only impactful but also economically sound.

Community-Based Support:

TeamKickabout operates on the principle that community support is a potent force in mental health care. By fostering a sense of belonging, TeamKickabout reduces the reliance on clinical interventions.

Preventive Mental Health Care:

The regular engagement in physical activities through TeamKickabout kickabouts acts as a preventive measure, addressing mental health challenges before they escalate to a point requiring NHS intervention.

Community Empowerment:

TeamKickabout empowers individuals within their communities to take charge of their mental well-being. By creating a supportive network, TeamKickabout becomes a first line of defense against mental health difficulties.

Nationwide Impact:

Our proposal to take TeamKickabout nationwide is not just an expansion; it's a strategic move to multiply the positive impact on lives and reduce the burden on healthcare resources. Crowdfunding support is pivotal in realizing this vision and extending the life-saving benefits of TeamKickabout to communities nationwide.

"Off the Pitch" Mental Health Support:

Over the next three years, TeamKickabout will further develop its "off the pitch" mental health support initiatives, including:

Toolkit of Resources:

Develop a comprehensive toolkit offering a variety of resources to support mental health, providing members with tools to navigate their well-being off the pitch.

Funnels/Processes to Getting Help:

Implement clear and accessible processes for members to seek help when needed, ensuring a supportive environment for those facing mental health challenges.

Off the Pitch Events:

Organize off the pitch events aimed at promoting community bonds and enhancing mental well-being. These events will serve as inclusive spaces for members to connect beyond the football pitch.

Ongoing Content:

Provide continuous content, including educational materials and resources, to empower and educate members on positive lifestyles and better mental health.

Launch of Additional Arms:

Year 1: Women's Kickabouts

Launch women's kickabouts to promote inclusivity and provide a dedicated space for women to engage in the TeamKickabout experience. This expansion aims to foster a sense of community and empowerment among women participants.

Year 2: Kickabouts for People with Disabilities

Introduce kickabouts specifically tailored for people with disabilities, creating an accessible and supportive environment for individuals of all abilities to participate in the joy of football and community connection.

Addressing Key Points:

Ensuring Consistency and Structure:

To maintain the consistency of TeamKickabout across all kickabouts, we propose the introduction of a paid marshal for each event. This marshal, trained through TeamKickabout's comprehensive course, will work alongside the volunteer captain. Their role is dedicated to upholding the structure, rules, and ethos of TeamKickabout, ensuring a unified experience at every kickabout.

Community Engagement Strategies:

Prior to kickabout launches, TeamKickabout will engage with local football clubs, councils, and community organizations. By establishing partnerships with organizations such as Community Trusts, and fostering collaborations with the NHS, we aim to create a robust network that supports and enhances the community engagement aspect of TeamKickabout.

Sustainability Through Diversified Funding:

Beyond crowdfunding, TeamKickabout is committed to financial sustainability through diverse channels. Ticket sales, TeamKickabout-branded merchandise, and sponsorships from both local and national businesses will contribute to the financial health of TeamKickabout, ensuring continued growth and impact.

Strategic Collaborations:

TeamKickabout recognizes the importance of strategic collaborations with local football clubs, councils, and healthcare organizations. Building on existing partnerships with Community Trusts, TeamKickabout aims to actively seek new collaborations that align with its mission and contribute to the success of kickabouts.

Technological Innovation:

TeamKickabout is developing its proprietary system. This system will revolutionize operations, encompassing booking, kickabout management, capacity systems, promotions, venue management, invoicing, member profiles, support communication channels, data tracking, reporting, and more. This technological integration ensures efficiency, transparency, and scalability in TeamKickabout's operations.

Leadership Team:

1. Peter Brooks - Co-Founder & Director:

As the Co-Founder and Director of TeamKickabout, Peter Brooks brings a unique blend of technical expertise and passion for community-driven initiatives. A full-stack software developer, Peter is not just steering the vision of TeamKickabout but also actively involved in revolutionizing its operations through the development of a proprietary system. His commitment to leveraging technology to enhance TeamKickabout's reach and impact is pivotal to the organization's growth.

Graham's personal experience fueled the inception of TeamKickabout, and his role as a director ensures that the organization stays true to its ethos. His commitment to mental health support and community well-being is evident in every kickabout.

3. Aaron Bedford - Director:

Aaron Bedford's journey with TeamKickabout is not just that of a director but a testament to the life-changing impact TeamKickabout can have. From being one of the first players to attend the inaugural kickabout, Aaron's personal success story is deeply intertwined with the essence of TeamKickabout. His transformative experience with TeamKickabout not only saved his life but also became the catalyst for his improved mental health.

Aaron's commitment to TeamKickabout goes beyond the pitch. Starting as one of the first captains, he played a crucial role in embodying the ethos of TeamKickabout and ensuring a supportive environment for fellow players. Recognizing his passion and dedication, Aaron took on the responsibility of managing TeamKickabout's digital presence as a volunteer, contributing to the organization's online visibility and outreach efforts.

In 2023, Aaron's invaluable contributions led him to join the leadership team as a full Director. His unique perspective, shaped by personal experience, continues to guide TeamKickabout in its mission to provide a lifeline for individuals facing mental health challenges.
