A new initiative
Hi
Thanks for supporting Teach the Future,
I wanted to send you all this update as I know you all contributed greatly to our previous crowdfunding efforts.
The global coronavirus pandemic has hit the education sector hard, and continues to cause anxiety amongst students, teachers and parents across the country and the world. It has also forced climate action to the back of the political agenda, but climate action, like our education, cannot be paused. The COP26 global climate talks, due to be held in Glasgow this November, were postponed by a year. With COP26 deferred to 2021, it's evident that, to our leaders, climate action isn't a priority, all the while the climate crisis continues its devastation. That's why young people from all over the world have adjourned to hold their own Mock COP26, to raise ambition and show the world how to behave in a crisis.
Mock COP will be run by young people and students involved in climate activism. We already have nearly 200 students from around 45 countries involved in the planning with more joining every day, many of whom have joined through Teach the Future and Fridays For Future Groups. Students behind the Teach the Future campaign were frustrated that climate education barely gets mentioned at COPs, despite playing a critical role in equipping future generations with the skills to limit the progression of climate breakdown, so climate education will be one of the core themes discussed at Mock COP.
As with Teach the Future, Mock COP26 requires funding to be able to progress and drive real change. Following the incredibly generous support we saw from the Teach the Future Crowdfunder last year, we have launched a Crowdfunder campaign with a target of £15,000 to fund Mock COP26. We would be very grateful if you were able to share our Crowdfunder and, if you are able to, please consider donating to help us put on Mock COP and show global leaders that young people demand strong climate action.
