Incredible progress

Thanks so much to all the 332 of you who donated an amazing £5,553 to launch a parliamentary reception to engage MPs in our Teach the Future campaign to transform education. Incredibly, much of this was raised in just two days, in sums ranging from £5 to £1000.

We were also uplifted to read all the hugely positive supportive comments of donors, some of which we thought we’d share with you.

“As a new grandparent, the spirit, intelligence and commitment displayed by young people is an inspiration and a source of some optimism to me.” - Alan Leslie Hughes

As a retired Head teacher in secondary schools, I am wholly behind young people having a proper introduction during their school time to the important issue of climate change and its consequences for society.” - Dr Peter Sainsbury

“Being a Child Psychiatrist I fully support your campaign. We need to start telling the truth.” - Kirsten Shukla

“Curriculum change is essential. The current one is totally inadequate for preparing young people for today’s climate emergency.” - Mark

We are pleased to announce that our Teach the Future parliamentary reception will be taking place on Wednesday 26 February 4-6pm in the Houses of Parliament’s panoramic Pavilion Terrace, the perfect time and place for engaging tired and hungry MPs between PMQs and dinner time! We are thrilled that Angela Rayner MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Education, has agreed to sponsor the event.

At the reception, we will be unveiling a bill proposal, which we believe will be the first-ever piece of draft legislation written by school pupils and students. We have secured an experienced legal draftsperson to write up our draft in the appropriate language.

You might have noticed that we have upped the crowdfunder target to £11,250. We massively underestimated the costs when we launched this crowdfunder. We thought £4,000 was enough, but the room in parliament is actually £7.2k, because we have gone for the biggest room, so we can engage the most MPs, and you have to order catering from them, and the bill writer will be £2.4k, and we need to factor in our travel to London and hotels. Thank you to all of you that have donated. We will send out the incentive bottles at the end of the crowdfunder and for those of you coming to the reception, we will be in touch soon.

Thank you again for all you amazing support and encouragement.
