Tampons Are Not A Luxury
We did it
On 3rd May 2018 we successfully raised £1,139 with 60 supporters in 56 days

To raise money for women who cannot afford sanitary items, and to help to abolish the luxury tampon tax.

by Greatness & Bad Canteen in London, England, United Kingdom

We want to raise money to donate to our chosen charities who help homeless women, refugee women, and women who can't afford tampons or sanitary items to deal with their periods.

This charity gives menstrual supplies to asylum seekers, refugees and women who can't afford them:

This charity donates and provides menstrual supplies to homeless shelters in the UK:

Sign this petition to help end period poverty, asking Procter and Gamble to donate a small but significant proportion of sanitary products to UK homeless shelters:

We also want to help abolish the 'tampon tax' for which a campaign is already underway, but due to complications with EU law, it won't be implemented until 2022. So if you sign the petition, you can help speed it up!

Basic necessities are granted a tax exemption in this country. Tampons and other sanitary items are not subject to this tax exemption, they are currently taxed at 5% which is the same for 'non-essential luxury goods'. This is often referred to as 'The Tampon Tax'. As women we know that these items absolutely ARE a basic necessity and we consider it an injustice that these items are taxed as a luxury product. These items are typically taxed at the same rate as non essential goods.

Sing this petition to help speed up the abolition of the 'tampon tax'.

This petition is asking supermarkets to drop their prices on menstrual products by 5% until the tax is abolished:

We think that ultimately these items should be given out for free to people who can't afford them, such as the homeless, families who struggle financially, refugees, and more. Much like in the way that condoms are given out freely in sexual health clinics.

Homeless shelters get an allowance every year to buy items like condoms, but still nothing for sanitary products. We want to help homeless shelters provide sanitary items.

Girls in the UK are missing school because they can't afford sanitary products to deal with their periods. Sometimes they're too afraid to ask for them because of the ridiculous shame and stigma attached to periods.

Please donate to this crowdfunder and please sign the petitions above!

All the funds we raise will be distributed to our chosen charities (above).

END THE STIGMA AND SHAME SURROUNDING PERIODS!

END THE TAMPON TAX NOW!
