Swim Safe is a free programme that teaches children aged 7-14 years vital lifesaving skills should they find themselves in trouble around water. While it is free for participants, we need to cover the local costs of running the programme (we need to pay the teachers who run the sessions!)
There has been an 85% increase in the number of child drownings in England between 2019 and 2022, with 20 drownings occurring in 2019/20 compared with 37 in 2021/22. Our Swim Safe sessions aim to educate children how to avoid being a statistic should they find themselves unexpectedly in water they didn't mean to get into.

There were 84 child deaths due to drowning between April 2019 and March 2022.
The risk of drowning was 3.5 x higher for children of black ethnicity than white.
