by Forests Without Frontiers in Uckfield, England, United Kingdom
Please help us plant and tend trees in Sussex. Restoring nature is one of the most important things we can do to help the climate can biodiversity crisis - and being in nature is hugely beneficial for our mental health too. Any amount is welcome!
Join us on 27th or 28th November for a community day of tree-planting and nature connection, with talks and lunch. We suggest £20 donation to individuals (£15 for concessions or £25 pay it forward) or £50pp for businesses. Email us on [email protected] for more details.
Forests Without Frontiers was founded in 2019 to restore and celebrate nature with the help of music and arts. Collaborating with local people and partners, we focus on tree planting, monitoring, maintenance and community events integrated with visual and auditory storytelling. Whilst engaging people creatively, we regenerate local landscapes and inspire climate action.

To date, we have planted over 180,000 trees to regenerate degraded landscapes in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania and in the UK. With community participation, 10,000 trees have been planted in England, including 4,000 in the Wealden area of Sussex, where we are headquartered. We believe in a whole ecosystem approach to landscape restoration - supporting trees and forests, wildlife and people, music and art – all at once.
Project Summary: We wish to organise community participation in tree planting and follow-up tree tending at Wilderlands Farm in East Sussex, an area of the High Weald that includes designated ancient woodland and historic wildflower pasture.
Why we want do to this: The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, and we have lost many of the cultural traditions, songs and tales that link our lives to nature. At the same time, our young people are suffering a major crisis in mental health. Many lack access to wild nature, which is known to be of great benefit to our overall health and wellbeing. This is why engaging local communities is integral to our tree planting and tending events, connecting people with the landscape and inspiring them to be its custodians over the long term.
Sussex is currently a fragmented landscape and the Wilderlands site forms part of the Weald to Waves initiative, which aims to create a network of contiguous habitat from the High Weald to the coast. The site includes ancient forest and medieval meadows with varied habitats, including tributaries of the River Ouse. There are numerous rights of way across the land so the wider community can enjoy these wild spaces.
Our planting days are the 27th and 28th of November for individuals and businesses. Please specify which ones you want to attend. Or you can just donate to support the tree planting and tending.
Tending and looking after the trees planted it's an important part of insuring their survival. We do this twice a year and involve the local communities in the process. Here is a video from one of our tree tending events:
