Essential food and medical for 60 pagoda cats in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

by Jess Kalisiak in Nottingham, England, United Kingdom

1750502186_img_9041.jpeg1750502171_img_9046.jpeg1750502137_img_9043.jpegEvery evening I spend 2 hours at a local pagoda in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to feed the 60+ cats who live there. It’s a hotspot for dumping with new cats/kittens each week, and it’s hugely unsafe with a lot of deadly disease/viruses as well as traffic accidents, and plenty of other threats. I work with an amazing local organization called PPAWS to do trap, neuter, release (TNR), treat sick/injured cats, and vaccinate as many as I can. But the costs of daily food, medical care, and spay/neuters continue to rise and without support I can’t continue alone.

Here’s a breakdown of the most common costs:

80kg of dry food/month $120

100 cans of wet food/month $90

4 tubs of goat milk $50

Each male neuter $40 (we try to do one per week)

Each female spay/abortion $70

Core vaccinations per cat $50

Extra vaccinations for common deadly viruses like Parvo/distemper $75 per cat

There’s always more - one kitten having to have his eye removed ($150), several FIP treatments costing hundreds each, and blood parasites, gum infections, the list goes on. It would be incredible if others could support this cause too. Please feel free to ask any questions!
