The Cause

Our Noah’s Story

In September, our lives completely changed when my 7 year old nephew, Noah, collapsed at home and was rushed to the hospital. In a moment, we found ourselves facing the unimaginable, Noah had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, a significant mass sat within his cerebellum. Noah and my sister Kelly were immediately transferred by ambulance to Sheffield Children’s Hospital. There, a ready team of doctors quickly took him urgently into surgery to install a drain to relieve the fluid build up in his brain, also known as hydrocephalus. This was the first critical step in saving his life.

Four incredibly difficult days later, Noah underwent a second surgery to attempt to remove the tumour. After a nine hour operation, we got the miraculous news that the neurosurgeons had successfully removed what they believed to be the tumour in its entirety, a mass roughly the size of a satsuma which for such a small boy, is just incomprehensible. A biopsy was then sent for testing.

In the days that followed, Noah faced a very tough recovery and experienced things no child should ever have to endure. Eight days later, we received the most amazing news imaginable, Noah’s tumour was identified as a Pilocytic Astrocytoma, a slow growing, typically non cancerous type. For Noah, it was confirmed to be Grade One, meaning it was benign which was the best possible outcome that we could have hoped for. By then, he was making remarkable progress.

Over all the weeks spent on the Neuroward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, we encountered an incredible team of doctors, nurses, anaesthetists, support workers, physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, teachers, play therapists, speech and language therapists, and more. So many caring people came into our lives, each one dedicated to giving not only Noah, but also us as a family the best care possible. Since finally coming home to continue his rehabilitation, that unwavering support has continued far beyond Noah’s time on the ward.

We are deeply & forever grateful.

Sharing success stories is so powerful, it highlights the real life superheroes among us who bring hope and resilience to difficult situations. No one wants to imagine a child facing a serious illness, yet it’s a reality for many families. Our family experienced this firsthand at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Despite the fear and uncertainty within its walls, there’s an undeniable positivity and strength in the air, largely thanks to the incredible staff who show up each day with boundless compassion and dedication.

Please help us in supporting Sheffield Children’s Hospital and raising as much as we can as the biggest and most heartfelt thank you for saving our Noah's life!

Thank you for your support, and good luck!
