Please rescue our home and health. We’re a couple in our late sixties and early seventies, and we’re reaching out because we really need your help. Our living situation has become very difficult. Our home has rising damp and damaged walls, a leaking ceiling, and no proper heating system, making it a struggle during the cold days and winter months.
Both of us have asthma and other health conditions, and living in these conditions is really taking a toll on our health. Our old heating system has given up on us, and with a very low income and no savings, we can't afford the necessary repairs. My husband’s previous job role many years ago was a council security guard, and I have had retail jobs, but I have mostly been a homemaker. We can't get the funds and we are not eligible for any financial support for our home. Due to our health issues, we are unable to work, and this makes our financial situation even harder.
We couldn’t afford to keep our old house because of mortgage payments and bills, so we had to sell it. Just before the pandemic, we moved into our current home, which needed a lot of repairs. We’ve been living in this house for five years and have tried to do as much as we could to make it livable.
We only managed to properly fix one room, which is the living room. We have to stay in that room most of the time. We also had flooring fitted in two bedrooms. The rest of the house has been deteriorating, making it very difficult for us now.
