Professionalism:

•Work in partnership in order to address complex needs & multiple disadvantages.
•Uniqueness:
SOMV is a unique and independent charity. We are passionate about supporting our military veterans, and the military community. SOMV strive to create a service that empowers and does not create dependency. Our uniqueness is summarised by the following characteristics:
•Environment: confidentiality and respect.
•Practice: understanding, individual-focused, structured plans & support.
•Relationships: genuine, voluntary, trusting, non-judgemental, diverse and equal.
•Skills: empathy, active listening and hearing.
•Partnership: working with external agencies, integrated services, and other agencies and individuals that provide a personal level of service that helps individuals by raising personal aspirations, expectations and confidence levels.
•Mental Health and Well-Being support will be developed with partner organisations, ensuring that our Veterans have access to a range of specialist services that can meet their individual needs. In any one year approximately one in four people experience at least one diagnosable mental health issue, and the world health organisation forecasts that by 2030 depression will be the single leading cause of the global burden of disease. We wish to help our Veterans overcome the stigma that exists around mental health and, give support to stop an individual’s mental ill health from getting worse. Through guidance and appropriate treatment and other professional sources, we will work with partnership services that can promote recovery of an individual’s good mental health.
