Five months ago, Liam, a 30 year old engineer, suffered a life-changing ischemic stroke secondary to a fibroelastoma – an event that turned his world upside down and has left him hemiplegic.
Waking up in the unfamiliar surroundings of a hospital following major brain surgery realising that he had paralysis, to be told he would be left with significant disabilities and in a wheelchair was nothing short of shocking.
Liam, who was travelling in Australia at the time of the stroke required lengthy treatment before he could be repatriated and faces many more months of treatment now back in the UK before eventually being able to live independently and try and rebuild his life and career again.
This is the first of several fundraising events this year in which we aim to support Liam and the facilities that have cared for him.
