About the Magazine - Ethical Hedonist is six years old this month! It all started on my dining room table after being fired for caring too much about my student interns on a woman's magazine and questioning disappearing feature budgets.
I love arts journalism with a passion. Writing about drama, film fashion and culture has been my whole life since I was a teenager, devouring Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, Truman Capote and Graham Greene et al.
About AJ and Ethical Hedonist - The Indie Arts and Culture Magazine with an Organic Heart
There was never any question that I was going to be a writer and a journalist after university.
I’ve spent 20 years as a lead feature writer on UK broadsheets and colour supplements, notably The Times, Mirror. Group, You, The Lady, The Sunday Times, ES and The Independent. I’ve lived an exhilarating, high-pressure life, interviewing icons from the great films and dramas of the day that have the power to move and delight us from Keira Knightley to Clive Owen, Naomi Watts and the stars of Sex and the City and Downton Abbey. I’ve also interviewed many eternal icons of film and drama including Jenny Agutter, Elizabeth McGovern, Vanessa Redgrave, Glenn Close, Kim Cattrall, Eleanor Tomlinson, Sienna Miller and Rose Byrne.
Help Arts and Culture Journalism Thrive!
In the last decade, the landscape of journalism and the media has changed dramatically because of the internet and technological revolution. It is now fairly impossible to make a living as a feature writer for quality magazines and newspapers alone. This is a tragedy, and where there is a will, there has to be a new way!
I made the decision to set up my own arts and culture magazine and find exciting new ways to continue as an arts journalist and communicate directly with you the reader and create one of a kind events around the features and interviews I research, write and create. I also write articles on fashion, regenerative organic food, baking, functional medicine, mental health, social impact money and investing and slow travel. The goal is to create a different and better arts and culture magazine that comes with integrity, ethics, transparency and heart. I hope you love the result.
