Hello friends. I’ve been thinking about the fact that there is a massive demand for trans voice coaches, but few coaches available. Separately, my clients come from different backgrounds in terms of race, class, gender etc., but the field is quite overwhelmingly white and middle class.
I am training 6 voice apprentices, because our community needs better representative leadership in this area, and so that I can better handle my client workload. I genuinely think we need them - communication is such an essential part of personhood, and as trans people we invest so much energy in how we exist in the world! I am happy to invest my time and effort to train them for free; however, training them and paying for materials is more than my one-man-business can provide.
Would you be willing to donate money, so that I can provide my future apprentices with better training - and so we can, in turn, have more voice coaches available?
As I mentioned, I will be training them for free. However, I’d like to offer them:
A mental health first aid course (£297.75 per person). Sometimes voice can be very emotional for us, as can having another trans person ask us how our week was, and it's important to me that apprentices are equipped to hold this space.
A copy of this book (£16.85 per person).
If there is money left over, it will be spent on free pay-it-forward voice classes for trans folks. Although we charge on a sliding scale, lessons are still not accessible to the poorest amongst us and we'd like to help with that.
If you can, please donate. If not, please share it with your friends and allies. Being able to offer trans folks a better and more joyful understanding of their voices has been wonderful for me and I would like more people to access this joy.
