A Journey of Passion, Talent and Determination
In just 18 months, Nelson has gone from stepping into a kart for the very first time to racing in key events in the British Karting Championship. Overcoming the challenges of autism and sensory sensitivities, he has progressed so rapidly in so many ways that it's left us all in wide-eyed amazement. In a few short months, from first stepping into a 25mph indoor electric kart, he now races high-performance karts exceeding 65mph on the UK’s fastest circuits, whilst competing and beating some of the UK's most experienced karters who've many more years of experience and vastly bigger budgets. We're not quite sure where inside he's found this inspiration but we want to encourage it.
So, to develop Nelson's natural gift, 
we now need to level the playing field for him to compete with the best. So far we’ve been able to support Nelson with his own kart and a competitive engine, allowing him to race with a professional team at a regional level. However, his progress in the sport has been so remarkable that we are accelerating our plans to keep up with him ! Nelson is set to compete in the prestigious British Karting Championship, following in the footsteps of Formula 1 stars like Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Lando Norris!
Why We Need Your Support
We're acutely aware that motorsport is such an expensive sport. Whilst we aren’t expecting to raise the vast sums needed for higher racing formulas, we do need financial support to help Nelson to gain valuable race experience in 2025 - with the ultimate goal of winning the British Karting Championships in 2026.
With that goal achieved we hope to secure major sponsorship to help Nelson progress into single-seater racing. But we're not getting ahead of ourselves. There's a lot of racing and learning to do right now.
We think his journey is more than just realising a little boy's dreams: it's about breaking barriers, inspiring others who have the same kind of challenges and proving what’s possible through dedication, hard work and the support of friends and strangers alike.
Nelson’s Story: Racing Against the Odds
Nelson was diagnosed with autism at the age of four, facing daily challenges with anxiety and sensory overload. Even simple new experiences, from different foods to unfamiliar people, have often been overwhelming. But racing has transformed his life.
From playing virtual racing on ‘Gran Turismo’ at 4 through many difficult years in between, Nelson finally overcame his fears by trying karting at a friend’s birthday party in 2023. That day he found a natural gift inside him which has set him free. What began as a fun day out soon turned into a record-breaking passion:
Nelson is now racing in one of the most competitive 'Rotax Inter' categories, competing against drivers, many who have been racing since they were 5. Despite this, he has already made his mark, proving he has the potential to go all the way.
Why This Matters Beyond Racing
Karting hasn’t just given Nelson a dream, it has transformed his confidence, social skills and self-belief. His ability to make friends, talk to new people and handle the pressures of secondary school has been life-changing.
Nelson proudly carries the National Autistic Society logos on his kart and helmet, hoping to inspire other children with autism or anxiety to overcome their own challenges and chase their dreams.
