Who are we?
We are committed to addressing the lack of culturally appropriate and accessible childcare for the Black African and Caribbean communities in Bristol. We believe that all children deserve the opportunity to learn, grow and develop in a nurturing and culturally sensitive environment, and that it is our responsibility to create these opportunities. Our team has substantial experience working in childcare, including with children who have special needs, and we are passionate about creating holistically informed strategies to meet the requirements of the young people who attend our setting.
We also prioritise the empowerment of the Black African and Caribbean communities in Bristol, and the development of sustainable community-led initiatives that promote self-sufficiency, independence, and long-term resilience. We collaborate closely with other community organisations and networks, accessing training, resources, and mentorship opportunities to support our growth and development.
Where you’ve seen us before ?
We have been hosting holiday clubs over the term breaks since 2021.
Over this time we have have had over 200 children attend our sessions!
These days are packed with activity, warm home-cooked food and fun in a various locations across the city.
We had the joy of working with some many creative individuals and facilitators, offering workshops such as; wooden game making, story-telling, Ujima radio, singing workshops, jewellery making, drama and so much more!
Our Summer Plans::
This summer we have 6 weeks of outdoor adventure and activity planned.
Based at the Pickle Factory, Easton, from here we will be offering 3 days a week of holiday club sessions.
We aim to not only provide basic childcare; but to nurture each child’s development and connect them to further programmes and individuals that can help encourage their potential. Through collaborations with local artists and facilitators, we bring together the artistry of creative minds to offer inspiration filled workshops and activities during our sessions.
This year we will be working with:
- True talk Africa
- Hip Hop gardens
- Creative writing/poetry
- Virtual Reality
- Cooking Lessons
Outdoor Activities Trip:
Over 3 days we will be taking 72 children to visit Mendip activity centre to experience a day filled of activity from archery, canoeing, climbing and lots more!
Our sessions are open to ages 5 - 15 years, and we are accessible and skilled to provide support to any young people with additional needs joining the holiday club.
