Summerhall Arts

RCN SC052638, Edinburgh

Vision: To be Edinburgh’s leading arts organisation. One that cultivates creativity, fosters cultural exchange, and enriches lives through a vibrant and inclusive programme of multi-disciplinary arts. Mission: Our mission is to provide a dynamic and community-focused platform for emerging artists, nurturing expression and engaging audiences through a diverse programme of new writing and enabling opportunities through the visual & performative arts as well as live music & theatre. We will run development opportunities to further equip those creative practitioners with skills they need to thrive. We strive to promote cultural understanding, spark dialogue, and contribute to the arts scene in Edinburgh and Scotland. Created at a time when funding, opportunities for development and creativity are being cut or closed, Summerhall Arts aims to locate and deliver a wide and diverse programme of opportunities, aimed at emerging and established local and national creative practitioners within an established safe space at Summerhall. We want to foster collaboration and provide access to vital support to enable creative freedom.

Summerhall Arts

What is Summerhall Arts?

Summerhall Arts is a new charitable organisation that has been borne from necessity but has at its creation beginnings within the cultural phenomenon that has captured the hearts and imaginations of the artistic community of Edinburgh, Scotland and the rest of the world.

Summerhall Arts is looking to build on the important work of the visual and performative arts that has been based at Summerhall in Edinburgh from 2012, as well as diversify to deliver real and vital support and opportunities to local and national creative practitioners. Due to financial pressures programmes and support are looking to be scaled back or cut which would have a massive detriment to the sector in both Edinburgh and Scotland.

Summerhall Arts is Independent but will be based within the venue, the organisation will look to support and develop emerging and early career artists as well as provide a safe base for creatives to play with form and find a voice. It will also programme seasons of new writing to give finished pieces of work an outlet which is just not happening in the city.

Summerhall arts plans to work with other complementary organisations and individuals to provide the much-needed opportunities and facilities to make the sector thrive.

The Parsnip – £5

I've watched Summerhall grow from a bare boned empty building, full of a devoted passionate history, into a new home to wonderful creativity and ambition. Places like Summerhall should be protected, cherished and valued way above financial motivation, or any corporate mindset s. I wish I could fund it entirely.
