At Oasis Community Hub: North Bristol we are passionate about building community and transforming lives. Through our Community Hub we provide vital community activities, youth opportunities, family support and holiday activities for children and adults across Lawrence Weston, and the wider North Bristol area.
The COVID-19 Crisis has hit most of us hard, but for many children and young people the challenges they face are beginning to feel insurmountable. Young people have reported feeling lonelier and more isolated than ever before, and have shared concerns about education, breakdown in routine, and fears about how Coronavirus will impact their future. This has put a huge strain on the lives of many young people who were already struggling with their mental health. We want to show young people that they are not alone in their struggles and give them an opportunity to be children again!
In the summer, when restrictions begin to ease and schools are closed, we want to ensure that young people across the city continue to feel connected and supported.
We want to provide young people with a ‘Summer Escape’ as a positive response to some of the challenges that lots of young people are experiencing in Bristol right now. We hope to work with local schools and partners to identify 50 children and young people who have been hit hardest by the Coronavirus pandemic, and offer them an outdoor pursuit activity or a trip out of the city, to temporarily escape their everyday pressures.
We have already established some fantastic partnerships with Young Bristol, a Bristol based Youth Charity, who have agreed to work alongside the Hub to provide a plethora of opportunities & experiences to the young people that we identify. We also plan to work with lots of other local partners too - so if your organisation can add value to our project; please get in touch!
We are a very small charity and have access to limited funds. ALL the food and activities we are looking offer to young people will be FREE. To make this event happen, we will need your donations to help us cover the cost of things like food, transport, and activity costs.
A small team from the Hub, have challenged themselves to run a half-marathon on Sunday 2nd May 2021, with the hope of raising of getting sponsors to help us reach our Crowdfunding target.
We also hope to apply for some funding or match funding to help with any additional costs.
Every pledge and contribution are valuable to our project, but we know that people don’t always have money to spare. If this is the case, there are lots of other ways that you can help us to reach our targets...
- Your recommendation - If you like our idea, be sure to tell your friends, family, and colleagues about it. If you can personally recommend this Crowdfunder to just one or two people you know who would LOVE it, we'll reach lots more people than we could ever reach by ourselves.
- Sharing our Crowdfunder on social media - By sharing and recommending our project to your friends, followers & contacts you can help to boost the number of people our project reaches. Crowdfunder reckons that each share on social media can equate to around £20 in pledges, so your shares could make all the difference!! Be sure to include a personal message for the best results.
