We want to install green technology to reduce electricity and water usage. We need better drainage to prevent flooding and promote play.

Estate workers on the Studley Royal estate started playing cricket in the Deer Park at Studley Roger around 1900 but it was not until the early 1970’s that Robert Sowray founded Studley Royal Cricket Club. Rob had to beg, steal or borrow players to get a team together each week in the early days and it soon became apparent to him that for the future benefit of the Club, junior cricket was required. This early vision today sees the Club fielding four adult Saturday teams, an adult evening league teams and six junior teams across four age groups.

We now find ourselves in a great setting in Ripon, with a ground that is one of the best places to play cricket in North Yorkshire, but need to modernise the facilities to be more eco friendly and future proof the club for the next generation.

At present, the ground is very badly drained, which stops us playing for large parts of the season, and with climate change, this will only get worse. It is therefore a priority to improve the drainage, but this is costly.

We would also like to reduce our carbon footprint by installing solar system to allow us to generate energy during our long summer days and reduce our use of fossil fuels.

We also want to reduce our water usage by installing smart flush toilets and urinals, as well as installing energy efficient hand dryers which will also reduce paper waste.

Finally, we will be installing a rain water harvesting system which will reduce water usage even further.

We need your help to make this all possible and help us reduce costs, be greener and be able to play cricket more often.
