Our House Walton’s Streetwise Project is helping to support some of the most vulnerable sex workers living and working in Central and North Liverpool. Our harm reduction van travels around some of the main red light areas of Liverpool offering support and emergency assistance to street sex- workers.
Our outreach unit van has been going out every weekend since 2016 (when we bought it second hand). Sadly the van is on it's last legs and has failed it's MOT yet again. We know we need a new van, but don't have the funds at the moment as we don't currently receive any regular funding. We're asking for your help to help us hit our target to buy a new van , kitted out for what we need to be able to continue providing this vital service for the people we support.
Read more below about what we offer.
Every Friday & Saturday night a team of brilliant volunteers take the van to the main red light areas of Liverpool. We offer a safe and warmer space to come and have a break, food, drink and chat as well as providing emergency food, referrals to specialist agencies, protection, and clothing. Women can then receive further support where needed from our day time support at Pearls Project.
We have helped to support over 140 sex workers including women, men, and transgender living and working in difficult circumstances. Those we work with come from a variety of different backgrounds, many will be struggling with addiction after suffering from complex family and social upbringings, and others may have a disability or long-term health condition or have been exploited or forced to become a sex worker.
The Streetwise project is delivered by a group of volunteers who are passionate about protecting and supporting sex workers living and working in our city. Many of our volunteers will come from a professional background including nurses, doctors, emergency services, teachers, and military services. We have around 20 volunteers delivering emergency advice and support every Friday and Saturday night covering 4 main areas including Walton, Anfield, City Centre and Shiel Road.
We would be so grateful for any donation large or small so we can raise the funds to help us purchase a new van that can be used as part of our weekly outreach, offering vital support to those who need it most.
