Aim: We're raising funds to plant five trees around the old school playground to bring some much-needed shade and greenery to the corner.
We're a group of neighbours that have come together to get more more trees planted in the area. The corner of Howson and Whitbread seemed like a great place to focus our efforts - there's very little shade on the pavement there in summer months and the corner would benefit from some greenery to break up the many shades of grey!
"Studies show they have a beneficial effect on mental health, work-productivity and business profits, and lower the levels of traffic speeding, road rage and crime. We are still discovering ways in which our mental and physical well-being is connected with trees." - Street Trees for Living
Through working with the charity Street Trees we've got permission from Lewisham to plant up to five trees around the old school playground (3 on Howson, 2 on Whitbread).
Street Trees requests a donation to contribute to the costs of planting (£395 per tree). We've secured funding for three trees and we're now hoping to raise enough funds to be able to plant all five.
We need to make the payment by 15th June.
We'd be very grateful for any donations to help reach all five trees!
