Help us to support hostels to welcome pets and their homeless owners together so that no one is forced to choose between their dog and a bed

Street Paws was born in 2016 in Newcastle when our founder Michelle Southern spotted a gap in provision for homeless people's pets. Working at that time in Veterinary Practice she was able to put together a team of vet volunteers. Street Paws is now working Nationally to provide free accessible vet care and support services across the UK.
We provide:
Veterinary Outreach
Teams of vet volunteers partner with charities and homeless services across towns and cities to provide vaccinations, preventative treatments and microchips. We refer to local vet practices for treatments and procedures such as neutering.
Dog Champion Scheme
Supporting hostels to welcome pets and their homeless owners inside together with the provision of Staff training and support, canine First Aid Training and kit, owner agreements, pet policies, free veterinary care and pet welcome packs.
Emergency Kennel Space
To prevent rough sleeping due to lack of pet friendly accommodation and for access to NHS inpatient services.
A lack of pet friendly temporary accommodation often meant that a homeless pet owner was often asked to give up their pet to access services. We believe that everyone has the right to a safe place to sleep without giving up their best friend.
The Dog Champion Scheme was launched in 2020 during the COVID 19 pandemic in Manchester. We supported the Local Authority with their Winter night shelter which housed 8 dogs and their owners over 4 months. We are delighted to say that the scheme was a resounding success with owners and dogs moved into permanent housing.
We now support 14 hostels across Greater Manchester but are ready to expand the scheme Nationally to enable rough sleepers and homeless people and their pets to stay together in hostels and temporary housing.
