Why are we crowdfunding?
As part of our Rights Respecting Schools leadership group, the children have chosen to raise money for Mary's Meals, a charity which provides nutritious meals in school for the poorest children across the world. Article 24 of the UNCRC says that richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this. To gain our UNCRC silver award the pupils have to raise money for a global cause.
We are also raising money towards our Strathmartine Primary School Fund which is used for the benefit of all pupils, eg funding buses for school trips, playground equipment.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised for Mary's Meals will be spent
- To provide a daily meal, in a place of education, for children in the world’s poorest communities.
- To provide relief for those suffering, in any part of the world, as a result of humanitarian crises or poverty; to help people escape poverty; and to provide care for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children.
- To raise awareness in the UK and worldwide of poverty issues through education.
The money raised for School funds will help to provide educational resources, including Outdoor Learning, and field trips for all the children.
Community impact
As well as attracting children into the classroom, school feeding has the power to improve concentration and participation in class, as well as increasing children’s overall happiness.
It is therefore a key investment in a country’s future and a cost-effective route out of poverty in the long-term.
For the school, monies raised will ensure that we can continue to provide a thriving and exciting educational environment for all pupils. At Strathmartine we strive for our children to be confident with who they are in our school family. They feel valued and contribute to the life of the school and beyond. They are encouraged to have life long love of learning and with the monies raised we hope to be able to provide an environment in which this vision can be realised.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
