The Prize
The Story Holder Shelf is a design that I designed in my Undergrad Degree and was the project that helped me gain a First Class Honours Degree. It has been exhibited in London at New Designers as well as Gray’s School of Art Degree Show in Aberdeen.
There is only 3 in the world and would normally go for £200 !
The Story Holder Shelf was originally designed to replace the art work above your bed and make it functional, whist encouraging people to read physical books before going to bed. However it is a shelf and can go anywhere and be used for anything.
The Story Holder is made from mild steel that has been water jet cut and folded, and waste wood.
There are two editions of the Story Holder Shelf and if you win you will get to choose what one you would like.
The first Edition is the History Hunter Edition, this shelf is forest green and comes with the metal and the waste wood.
The second edition is the Adventure Seeker, this shelf comes only with the metal and is white. The purpose of this is to encourage people to go out and find their own waste material to put into the shelf, this will then open their eyes to the amount of waste there is in the world whilst also showing them what they can do with it.
It is painted white to encourage the user customise the shelf and make it their own.
The Cause
If you don't know me I am Alex, a young determined female designer about to take a male dominated industry by storm !
My values as a designer is to design Sustainably, Honestly and to design with the consumer. I am a designer who does her research and listens to the needs of the customer. I strongly believe that design is not just for the rich.
I am about to start my Masters in Interior, Architecture and Spatial Design at Edinburgh University. This course will help me become a better designer and get my foot in the door of the design world.
The course is £13000 for one year. I have managed to get a loan for £7000 but I need to figure out the other £6000.
This is where I need your Help!
My dream is to be a designer that changes the way we think about design. To use the powerful tool of design to create a positive impact on this planet.
