Our Building is holding us back! Building for the Future is an initiative that aims to make St Lawrence's Church a building fit for the 21st Century, both in the way it runs and by what it can offer and facilitate for our community. Our vision is to be a growing church at the heart of Hungerford. Our dream is to share Jesus' love, life and teaching within our community and enhance our worship and outreach. As a church, we have increased our attendance by 18% over the past three years. Our aim is to create a church building that meets the needs of today, both for its membership and for the community we serve. We are committed to offering a universal welcome to all ages and capabilities, extending our church-based initiatives and opening our doors to the community for activities that cannot find or afford a base in Hungerford. To achieve this end, we have planned a major upgrade project that will sympathetically transform the west end of our church building into accessible and flexible meeting spaces with the appropriate facilities.
With the funds raised we plan to achieve the following:
• Glass doors to reflect our welcoming, ‘open door’ ethos to replace the existing solid, heavy and cumbersome, internal porch doors.
• Installation of 2 WCs, one of which will be accessible and have baby changing facilities.
• The creation of 3 different sized meeting spaces: 2 at ground level, 1 of which will have an audio/video feed from the main body of the church, and 1, smaller space located on the first floor.
• Fully equipped kitchen to replace the current servery/ flower arranging space which has no oven, hob or fridge.
• Vestry relocated to the first floor to allow for the creation of a meeting room below.
• A new fuel-efficient boiler and plant room.
• Better insulated and separately heated spaces.
• Improved storage to de-clutter the church.
• New, level, stone flooring to replace the uneven, worn existing stone floor.
• Other minor rearrangements to the layout of the church to increase functionality.
