We're still collecting donations
On the 24th February 2022 we'd raised £100 with 3 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We hope to purchase and install a new artificial wicket for the junior sections games and practices.

OUR ORGANISATION
We are Silkstone United Cricket Club, an amateur, volunteer run sports club based in the village of Silkstone, Barnsley. Silkstone CC is one of the oldest surviving sporting organisations in the local area dating back to around 1850. There have been plenty of bumps in the road along our 171 year history including having to play our home games out of the village for a number of years until our new ground and pavilion was completed around the turn of the millennium. The club as a whole have gone from strength since then and now enter two adult teams in the South Yorkshire senior league alongside a fantastic junior set up coaching over 100 children aged between 7-18.
THE ASTROTURF WICKET
2020 and 2021 tested Silkstone like many other sports clubs up and down the country. Due to the Covid pandemic our usual means of fundraising through social events has failed to raise any much needed funds. The junior section of the club heavily rely on the artificial wicket installed over 10 years ago for training and midweek games. The wicket is used almost every night of the week during the Summer, a sight which has been a joy to behold for many villagers and visitors along the years. The wicket is now at a stage at which needs urgent attention. A full refit of the AstroTurf surface and ground works would ensure the junior section has the facility to carry on its fantastic work in the local community. We realise these are tough times for everyone and would like to take the opportunity to thank you for reading our story. Please feel free to share and hopefully we can achieve our target to give further generations the opportunity to play cricket in our beautiful village....and hopefully find the next Joe Root or Heather Knight!
