In Memory of Steve: A Bench Restoration Project
This winter I took on something that just felt right — bringing an old wooden and cast iron bench back to life, in memory of Steve. Bit weathered, bit forgotten, but still solid underneath. Kind of like how he saw things — always spotting the good, even when others didn’t.
Steve had a knack for noticing the stuff people usually miss. That’s why this little bench project made sense. It’s about seeing the value, putting in the time, and giving it another shot — just like he always did with the people around him.
We’ll be unveiling the finished bench at Steve’s memorial cricket match on Sunday 25th May at 1PM at Winchmore Hill CC. It'll be a proper spot to sit, have a natter, and raise a glass to the man who kept our cricketing teams ticking and meant so much to so many.
I've ordered new hardwood slats and have painted the cast iron bits and bobs, all I have to do is put it all together!!!!!!
If you fancy chipping in, your help will go toward:
- Getting the last of the bits to finish the job properly
- Installing the bench with a plaque in Steve’s name
Anything extra we raise will go straight to the British Heart Foundation — Steve’s chosen charity.
Thanks for being part of this. Hope to see you there on the 25th.
Cheers,
Chris
