Aim: Join me this Father's Day as I walk from London to Brighton to support Men-ToolBox, an app empowering Black men with essential resources.

1747352419_img_7637.jpegHi, my name is Malik Amor Sankara and I’m the founder of Men-Toolbox., I’m inviting you to join me on a transformative journey as I walk from London to Brighton on Father’s Day to raise awareness and seed capital for Men-ToolBox—an innovative app dedicated to supporting men of African and Caribbean heritage. This app is a vital resource for empowerment, offering culturally relevant tools on manhood, mental health, and overall well-being.

My journey began in 2017 after facing personal challenges with depression and anxiety, which led me to establish Men Of The Diaspora, a safe space for men to share and heal.

Recognising the need for open dialogue, I co-founded MANifest, a monthly event addressing topics like mental health, vulnerability, and relationships. We later collaborated on ManDem On the Mat, offering yoga, meditation, and sound healing workshops, all of which experienced sold-out success. Now with over eight years of experience focused on men of African and Caribbean heritage I’m excited for what this next chapter looks like.

Why Men-ToolBox is Necessary:

In today’s society, men from African and Caribbean backgrounds face unique challenges that can severely affect their mental health and wellbeing.

- Statistics: Research shows that Black men are more likely to experience mental health issues but are less likely to seek help due to various barriers. For instance, studies reveal that Black men are diagnosed with serious mental illnesses at higher rates, yet only a fraction access necessary services.

- Impact of Racism and Discrimination: The stigma surrounding mental health in our communities, compounded by experiences of racism and discrimination, creates an environment where seeking help feels unsafe or unwelcome.

- Cultural Incompetency: Many existing services lack cultural competence, failing to address the specific needs and experiences of men within our demographic. This gap leads to feelings of isolation, confusion, and despair.

These factors illuminate a pressing need for tailored resources. Men-toolbox aims to shatter the stigmas surrounding mental wellbeing within our community, offering a safe space for men to engage in open conversations, share their experiences, and seek help without fear of judgment.

As the UK government states, “We must ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to mental health services that meet their needs.” Men-toolbox stands as a testament to this commitment, filling a crucial gap in the market while fostering a culture of understanding and care.

How We Reach Our Goal of £15,000:

To show how achievable our goal is, consider these options for contributions:

- 100 People Giving £150: Just 100 generous supporters can help us reach our target.

- 250 People giving £60 will allow us to reach our target.

- With a wider community, 500 individuals each contributing £30 will also achieve our goal.

- Per Mile Breakdown: The distance from London to Brighton is approximately 54 miles. To reach our target, we need to raise about £278 per mile.

Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to creating an impactful resource for our community.

Breakdown of £15,000 Usage:

The funds raised will be allocated thoughtfully to ensure we take Men-toolbox to the next level. Here’s how we plan to use the £15,000:

1. Content Development (£5,000):

   - Crafting engaging articles, videos, and podcasts that address mental wellbeing topics relevant to men of African and Caribbean heritage.

   - Collaborating with mental wellbeing professionals to provide expert insights and support materials.

2. Marketing (£4,000):

   - Launching targeted campaigns to raise awareness about Men-toolbox within our community.

   - Utilizing social media platforms to foster engagement and reach a broader audience.

3. App Design and Development (£6,000):

   - Hiring skilled developers and designers to bring our wireframes to life, ensuring a user-friendly experience.

   - Conducting user testing sessions to gather feedback and refine the app based on real needs.

By supporting the sponsored walk from London to Brighton, you are not just contributing to a crowdfunding campaign; you are joining a movement to empower men to take charge of their mental wellbeing. Together, we can break down barriers, foster understanding, and create a supportive environment through Men-toolbox.

Let’s make a lasting impact in our community—one step at a time. Thank you for believing in the vision and helping me turn it into reality.
