Revitalise our computer bay into a community ICT hub, enhancing digital skills and access for students and local community.
by Niamh McFlynn in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
We are a dedicated team from a small school just outside Cookstown, serving 188 pupils. Our passion is to create a future-ready learning environment where every student can access the full curriculum and develop essential digital skills that are critical in today’s world.
Our project aims to revitalise our under-resourced computer bay into a vibrant community ICT hub. This hub will not only enhance our students' learning experiences but also serve the wider community by offering open-access slots, upskilling courses for local business owners, and support for vulnerable individuals in accessing essential digital services.
With the loss of nearly 30 laptops, we now have just 12 devices for the entire school, and two classrooms lack interactive boards. Rising costs of online software further strain our resources, hindering our students' ability to fully engage with their education in this digital age. Our project will address these challenges by providing the necessary tools and skills, fostering both educational and community growth.
Our project aligns with the Financial Wellbeing criteria by empowering community members with digital literacy skills, thereby enhancing their financial independence and security. By providing courses on AI, digital marketing, and scam awareness, we aim to build a resilient community capable of navigating the digital landscape confidently.
With the funds raised, we will purchase new devices, upgrade our infrastructure, and develop a comprehensive program that benefits both our students and the community.
Join us in creating a hub that empowers our community with skills and opportunities, paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
