Deterioration was discovered on the clock face in 2021, and fundraising for its replacement began in 2022. However in 2023 it had to come down as bits were falling off and in danger of damaging the church roof. Finding appropriate arrangements for the repair that were acceptable to the Church authorities and also complied with the restrictions of being a listed building was not only time consuming but also very costly. In the time that it took to find a solution the prices were steadily rising and in the end the decision was made to order the clock face even though the funds weren't all in place. The final cost of replacing the clock will be in the region of £19,000, and it will need to be paid in Spring of 2025.
Our tiny village has made some valiant efforts at fundraising, and through events and generous donations have managed to raise an amazing £14,000, but we still have a long way to go.
The church has stood here since medieval times, when Swine was an industrious and important place. The building is listed, and has several very interesting historical features. It is the only public building in the village, and we'd like to keep it if we can, both as a place of historical interest, and also as a social centre.
