Keep on Giving out to those in need!
We are St Marks Church Haydock our motto is knowing Jesus, loving each other and caring for our community. We are here for our community in as many ways as we can be!
The church hosts the main communal space in our locality with the church building, centre (old school) and ware house. In this space we host groups for all - toddler groups, after school primary-age activities, youth, meals for seniors, crafting, ladies fellowship and support for those dealing with dementia, as well as the community affordable cafe, Pantry and shop and warehouse. There is something for everyone.
With the cost of living crisis we are seeing an increase in people using the cafe (unwilling to cook or seeking warmth and company) and have opened as a warm space to meet this need. We are providing free refills of hot drinks and free soup. We are providing warm packs to those struggling - these are the most costly part of what we are doing. The increase in energy bills is also going to cost us.
Finally the Pantry is providing a food club which helps to reduce food waste and costs. This enables people to budget better. We are getting more people coming in and more people struggling to pay even the £4 membership and would love to have the capacity to meet this need.
The money we raise will buy warm packs to help people stay warm at home and any extra will provide food for the Pantry users to ensure good supplies to feed our community.
