We are the Anglican parish church in the village of Whittington, near Lichfield, Staffordshire. We are bringing our church into the 21st century with a disabled access toilet, a baby-changing point, a refreshment point and social space - all open daily for our community.
A NEW LOOK FOR ST GILES' CHURCH!
St Giles’ Church has developed over the centuries, from its foundations in the 1200s, through the fire of 1760 and redevelopment in 1761, with renovations and additions in 1881, and more additions in the 1960s.
We are beginning a project to ease our building into the 21st century, without destroying its character and essential purpose as a place of worship, reflection and quiet. Our intention is to make our church more welcoming, accessible, and hospitable for our community, for visitors, and for our congregation.
We are building a small extension to create a disabled toilet and baby changing area, altering the inner doors to increase the interior view from the porch, creating a refreshment point at the back of the building, and freeing-up a large flexible space.
We will offer the church to the community for children’s and small group activities, for meetings, and for concerts and similar larger events, with up-to-date facilities and space to be both formal and informal. From September the church and these facilities will be open every day for those who visit the churchyard, who walk and cycle from our car park, and for those who wait in their cars whilst their children are at activities in the church hall - come in for a coffee, do!
Cooper-Whyte Conservation Ltd has been appointed to carry out the work, and they are cracking on with it, as you can see from the pictures below!
Whilst we have some funds available, we need to raise a substantial amount of money. Only with your help can we make our beautiful and much-loved church accessible and sustainable for the 21st century.
Please help us to deliver this project, and please join us on this exciting journey!
Thank you very much.
