Raising emergency funds to help meet increased demand across the district due to Covid19 and to support the Foodbank's operations.

by St Albans and District Foodbank in St. Albans, England, United Kingdom

Last year St Albans and District Foodbank supported 1000's of families across the district with emergency food parcels, but Covid19 is impacting the service  in a number of ways

1. We are sadly seeing increased demand across  St Albans, Harpenden, Wheathampstead and London Colney and only expect this to get higher.

2. We are seeing a reduction in donations of key items as  shopping habits change and as supermarkets limit sales to individuals.

3. A number of our regular volunteers are from "at risk" groups so unable to work currently.

4. We are having to adjust our interaction with our clients, to protect them and our volunteers from the risks of Covid 19

We need your urgent help to fund the purchase of the food that is required to fill this gap.  We have been able to agree terms with  major wholesalers so that we can purchase at beneficial rates and expect that we will need to continue purchasing for quite sometime.

How you can help

Donations of food and hygiene products are still gratefully received. Our website https://stalbansdistrict.foodbank.org.uk/ gives our warehouse address and opening times. UHT milk, fruit juice, tea, rice, pasta and tinned potatoes are in short supply. Alternatively, if you cannot donate food at this time then please give to this Crowdfunder project that will allow us to purchase the food and products we need and to run the Foodbank.

Thanks so much for all your support at this time of need.

More about St Albans Foodbank

The St Albans and District Foodbank, was established in May 2014 as a member of the Trussell Trust’s network of Foodbanks. It is supported by a wide variety of churches, community groups and individuals.

We provide emergency food for people in crisis. We help working people as well as those on benefits, from a wide range of backgrounds. When people visit the Foodbank they are given three days’ worth of food, providing them with three meals a day plus some essential non-food items such as cleaning products and toiletries.

When people come to us for help we try to get to the root cause of the ‘crisis’ and direct them to where they can obtain help to resolve the problems they are facing.

We run five foodbanks every week across the district at different times/days/locations. Most clients tend to use the foodbank nearest to them due to lack of transport and cost of bus fare.
