Sporting Wellness
Sporting Wellness raises awareness and provides support to enable positive mental health in young sportspeople aged 16 to 30. We provide a network and community in which representative young sportspeople can be open about mental health via our website, social media, ambassadors, partnerships, training and events. We also facilitate education and training, and fund one to one mental health support.

Sporting Wellness was founded in January 2020, by 19 year old Callum Lea. Our mission is to raise awareness and provide support to enable positive mental health in young sportspeople, which Callum himself, through personal experience, had found lacking.
The inspiration behind setting up the charity was that the representative sport environment can be a tough one, filled with pressure and uncertainty. It’s difficult enough to bear its weight without a mental health issue such as anxiety or depression. Both sport related issues and non-sport related issues can easily creep into a young athletes life, damaging their overall wellbeing and potentially a future career.
We provide and fund direct one to one mental health support for young sportspeople, and with Covid-19 impacting on so many sports and sport events and so the actual athletes themselves over 2020/2021, this has been a key area of our work in our first 18 months. We've received requests for one to one support from over 1000 athletes since January 2020, and we have made and funded the appropriate referrals for the much needed, and appreciated, specialist one to one support.
Our goal is to create a network and community in which representative young sports people can be open and honest about their mental health, and have a greater awareness for their peers’ mental health. This is done through our website, social media channels, ambassadors, fundraising and generally raising awareness that mental health is just as important as physical health in sport.
