I'm Tony Byrne, and I'm running the Paris Marathon 2025 to help raise essential funds for South Brent & District Caring, a local charity based in the South Hams.
Last year I supported a fundraising half-marathon, and so I thought this year, why not combine a personal goal with an amazing fundraising opportunity. This will be my first ever marathon, as well as the furthest I've ever run, and training is well under way.
Thank you for your support. Every penny raised goes to South Brent & District Caring towards running their many existing services and developing new community projects.
South Brent & District Caring is a completely self-funded charitable organisation providing essential support for the local community, through wonderful volunteers, organised groups and activities. Their aim is to reduce social isolation and tackle loneliness by helping people to build meaningful connections, and to support people to live safely and independently.
In 2024 SB&DC and their volunteers facilitated 1224 journeys to essential medical appointments and social groups, 426 befriending sessions, 61 shopping trips, 221 group activities and provided 1252 homemade (and delicious) 2 course meals, and much more.
In addition SB&DC provided a free welcoming warm space which was open for 250 days last year and held the same number of office drop-in sessions, offering support and help for people living in the South Brent, Rattery, Diptford and North Huish parishes.
