Aim: Hiking Pen Y Fan 16 Miles = 16 Long Months Kris has been in Hospital! Raising money for Kris's Recovery & St Mary's London ICU
Elan, My Sister Lois and Myself will be taking on a HUGE challenge on the 14th of September 2025 in order to raise vital funds for the life savers in the Intensive Care Unit in St Mary's Hospital in London & to help raise funds for Kris's recovery . As I am sure most of you who have clicked on this link know Kris's story by now but I will give you a brief background as to why we are raising funds. Whilst working his day job Kris was involved in a road traffic accident back in January 2016 , his abdomen was crushed by a mechanical part of his lorry. Kris was resuscitated at the scene and rushed to Plymouth hospital where he underwent many life saving surgeries.
I met Kristofer in 2018, and from day 1 was absolutely smitten! Anyone who knows him can tell you what a kind, caring, loving person he is with an infectious personality, he has a huge heart and the kind of person who will do anything for anyone. He took on the role of a Step Dad to my daughter who was 7 at the time we met, we were always going on family day trips, Kris taking her out in his mx5 and showing her how to use the camera to capture race cars at castle coombe and air museums. Unfortunately it wasn't long before Kris started to get poorly, with many visits and stay's in hospital over the years until he finally decided to set a date for the big op!
Kris went into St Mary's Hospital in London the end of February 2024 for a planned operation to remove infections he had on his aorta... you know a phone call from the hospital in the middle of a surgery is never good..... Things were worse than they had anticipated, the question they were faced with was whether to continue to operate...or not?
My goodness are we thankful that they did!
Kris visited theatre another 25 times after this, 25 scary times! Kris spent weeks in a Coma, he's had multiple operations to his bowel, both legs amputated, Kris continues to fight every day to get stronger and adapt to the major life changes that he is having to face. With resilience and his positive attitude he crushes all the goals that he is given, there is still a mountain to climb but with strength and support he will conquer the challenges he will face one day at a time.
This brings me to why we have chosen this specific challenge to raise money, 16 miles for the 16 long months Kris has been in hospital, we will be challenging ourselves to climb Pen Y fan a total of 4 times! We want to show Kris that no matter how hard things get we are on this journey with him.
As we all know the NHS is under a lot of pressure, watching all that they have done for Kris and are continuing to do so, we would like to raise money to help fund the vital care that they give working under extreme pressures. The money raised will be split between the intensive care ward in St Mary's hospital London for saving Kris's life on several occasions, hoping that funds raised will help towards doing the same for others, the rest of the money raised will go towards Kris's recovery as there are quite a few adaptations needing to be done in order to allow Kris to build his independence.
We are asking you kindly if you are able to donate please do, every little builds up and together we can make a real difference, if you can kindly share this fundraiser it would be greatly appreciated, Fundraisers that are shared earn up to 4x more donations!
