We are community development charity made up of local people from the Springburn Community. Spirit of Springburn

Spirit of Springburn is a community development organisation made up of local people of all ages and background who want to make a difference in the area. Our organisation was founded in 2021 to carry out the recommendations of the 2019 'Our Springburn: Shaping the future' Charrette (community consultation) where over 2,000 got involved to let us know about what they want in our local area, there was also a review carried out in 2021 to ensure that the results still matched what the local community needed after lockdown.

Currently we run the Springburn Community Hub, in Springburn Shopping Centre where we help the local community in every way we possibly can. We have a community fridge twice a week which local people can come and get food items, without needed a referral, this helps us to support people in the community and reduce food waste. In the hub we also provide space for other partners such as NG Homes, Scottish Fire Service, Fairstart, Glasgow City Council officers etc a space to engage with the public in a busy venue. We also have surgeries from local elected members so that members of the community can easily access them.

In August 2022 we ran the Springburn Family Friendly Cultural Gala Day on Springburn where over 4,000 people attended. The idea behind this event was to encourage integration of communities of all backgrounds and cultures, bringing them all together in the one place, whether that be community groups, faith groups or culture groups. This event was a huge success in the area and it was the first time something like this had been done, especially on such a large scale. There was also an important reason as to why we choose Springburn Way, it was about bringing community ownership of that street back and reminding everyone that it is in fact the 'Heart of Springburn'

We also have a New Scots Woman's group where we work to provide ESOL classes and signposting to those in our community who need additional support.

We also help to provide children's activities in the area, we are currently helping to run a Art Club for school pupils over the summer holidays in partnership with New Rhythms for Glasgow.

I could go on forever about the different things that our charity gets up to, so if your interested in finding out more please check our social media!

Any donations made towards our charity will be used to support the running of the Springburn Community Hub (such as food, training of volunteers, utilities etc), community events in the local area and some of the projects mentioned above.
